Sant'Efisio 2015: the Mediterranean Saint presented at UNESCO

Less than ten days before the 359° fulfillment of the vow that links the City of Cagliari at one of the most heartfelt and enduring religious traditions, Efisio renews himself as man and Saint of gratitude, sharing and solidarity. This year edition, starting April 25, with the enthronement of the chariot until the expected and evocative return in Stampace May 4, will proudly vaunt a further step in the application of the "Big festival" to the UNESCO's List of Intangible Heritage: the Italian Commission has chosen to present it in Paris as a priority to preserve its richness over the island and national borders.

The awareness of a boundless heritage that needs to be promoted and enhanced reveals a precious guideline in those which should be the choices of the municipalities of the west coast that can boast of hosting the path of the Saint: Capoterra, Sarroch, Villa San Pietro, Pula begin to reap this year, thanks to coordination of the City of Cagliari, the fruits of many years of a synergy of purpose that delivers, at 2015 edition, a rich program of religious events, cultural exhibitions, musical and theater through close collaboration with the tourism industry of the territory.

A significant interest for the procession's ethnographic value will be the exaltation of the linguistic component of the songs, the Pregadorìas and the Gòccius, which for the first time, with the help of the University of Cagliari, will be recorded and returned the next year in precious documents accessible by the Sardinian citizens. The Saint will be scanned, and will became accessible through the media more than they ever did: to allow an increasing involvement of pilgrims, tourists and devotees, all paths and the crucial moments of the religious ritual that since last year were remained in the background, will be documented live by local stations and given back to viewers in several Sardinian television appointments.
