Cala Luna: a beach between the sea and the mountain

Between Dorgali and Baunei the beach where the water is more blue

It is 9 o’clock and Sally is seated on the sand of Cala Gonone beach, waiting for the rubber boat where there is the guide who is going to accompany her and other passengers towards territories never seen before. The journey for coming to Cala Luna is long and Sally knows that she will arrive in the afternoon. But, in the interim, dedicates herself to the admiration of the other small coves present in the Gulf of Orosei.

It is 4 p.m. and the guide tells visitors that there are two possibilities: the first one concerns the privilege of entering in the Cave of the Sea Ox and for the other time they can enjoy the beauty of Cala Luna beach; the second one concerns the choice of staying for the whole time in Cala Luna, until the return. In that moment, Sally is embarrassed and she does not know which decision make. But, since she is a lover of the sea and of the suntan, she chooses to stay in the beach and she leaves, with regret, the idea of knowing the Cave about what she heard telling.

After being got off of the rubber boat, her feet touch the boiling water, that had the time for heating up during the day. According to her, it is an unique feeling and that heat becomes an extraordinary freshness. The sea is characterized by various glares of lights and colors: from an emerald green in the shore, to a sky blue that is easy to see far, and finally, a blue whose Sardinia can be proud of. Unique colors that can be created only by the Nature.

Sally goes towards the beach and she is fascinated by the bright sand, with some shades between beige, cream and finally, an unexpected white. It has big granulars and there is a mix with the small stones. The beach, that is long, 700 meters, stays in the middle of two different areas, unusually both present in the same environment: on the one hand, there is the sea; on the other hand, there is a stream, called Codula di Luna, whose birth is in the Oseli Mountain. Sally puts her towel on the sand and she lays herself down.

The show that she can watch is beyond words. Depending on the point to which her eyes are addressed, she can see the sea, the swimmers who get a tan and go into the water. But, if her eyes watch towards the stream, immediately, Sally has a feeling of freshness, given by the idea according to which she is not only near the sea, but, near the mountain, too, ready for an autumnal picnic.

When can she watch again such a natural film? Therefore, she decides to make an excursion beyond the stream and she is captured by a wood of oleanders. Little by little, she is carrying on, she discovers that the Cala Luna beach gives some services, too, for instance, a café-restaurant and the rental of some tools for scouring the sea bottom. She buys a fresh drink for quenching her thirst and, involuntarily, hears some people who are talking about the presence of six big caves in the left side of the beach.

She is curious and she decides to go towards those caves, that, with no doubts, can be the good friends for taking refuge from the heat. Come to the place described by the other people, she is captivated by the size and the depth of the caves. It is another world to explore. They were formed by the crumbling away of the rock, because of the sea.

It is 6 p.m. and the guide has to come back to Cala Gonone with the visitors. Sally is sad because she must leave, but, she is glad because she had the possibility for seeing an enchanted place as Cala Luna, a pearl with an inestimable virtue.
